Congratulations to Laurie T! She competed in the 60+ female division of the Tampa Bay Games this past Sunday.
In line with Janice and Sandy, Laurie is using her “retirement” to invest in herself. Yes, she has a husband, kids, a house…and actually, all spread between several states! Yes, she’s busy. But her health and fitness are a starring role…and luckily this crazy little sport we play helps keep her interested, motivated and …yes, competitive. I know, I know…(and hear this in Ed’s sarcastic voice)…”But I’m old…I’m not competitive”. Here we are to say you should be! Competitive…with yourself. Strive to be better, stronger, fitter, every day, every week. And the only way to do that is to work at it. Laurie works at it – 4-5, sometimes 6 days a week (if we’re lucky!). As we get older it takes more work to keep us strong, mobile and able. And yes, we’re biased…it’s our business. Luckily, we have had a “lab” of about 100 of you for YEARS (9 to be exact). And we have friends and family who don’t participate in the lifestyle we recommend. We can state emphatically – use it or lose it. The harder your work at staying strong and able, the more strong and able you are. There is no pill, fancy machine or 7 minute workout that’s going to give you the benefit of lifting weights, working your heart, and using basic calisthenics to help keep you mobile. So….let’s use Laurie as motivation…work hard this week!
WORKOUTS FOR THE WEEK OF 9/9
MONDAY
Today after a very complete and spicy warm up, our four rounds will see rope climbs, farmer carries and wall balls in higher/unbroken reps. Then our conditioning piece will be a little longer than usual – teams of 2 – working on Grace prep.
WEDNESDAY
Our squat will the a double DB thruster, our press will be a BB PP, and our hinge will be a BB DL.
FRIDAY
Today we’ll tackle a circuit of max effort pushing and pulling – you’ve seen this before. We’re focused on endurance repetitions on Fridays lately. Then, in teams of 2 you’ll work through an AMRAP of three elements: cardio, a loaded hinge and pulling.
Have a great week, Legends!
