Hello friends!

This is a few weeks overdue but we’re starting 2023 a bit late.  Both Ed and Sam here, putting out our goals, as we have a few things coming up this year, and the past few years have both flown by and drug on…believe it or not, BOTH!

If you’re not interested in the backstory, skip down to the paragraph entitled THE PLAN…and we’ll get to the point.

Our goal when we sold Rebels in 2020 was to focus our attention on the seniors’ program – then Legends, now GrandMastersRx. For 10 years with Rebels, we witnessed what “functional fitness” executed at a challenging level in a small group format was capable of: improved strength, fitness, and physical and mental health. It was also capable of reversing many of the disorders caused by modern life (diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension to name a few).  These rapid improvements in the health of our senior athletes solidified how this type of program would solve so many of their problems, most notably, pain, stiffness, and a resulting lack of general “ability”. Modern medicine would state that osteoarthritis and sarcopenia were the culprits, and we knew we were the solution.

Layer on the group dynamic and their social needs were also met.  As we, too, were getting older, now in our 50’s and 60’s, we knew this was our “new place” in life.  And while we’re good at running a gym, our ultimate goal was and is to reach more people and help this amazing program expand beyond our four walls. We still intend to push out our program, packaged into a “how to” manual, with seminars – live and online, and a robust online source of education and information for trainers and coaches, as well as consumers. We continue to make progress but it’s hard to balance this and run the gym.

While we hadn’t intended on leaving the premises (Rebels), circumstances dictated that need in order to continue to provide a clean, safe, and “sane” environment from which to train the “grand-masters” athletes. And here we are.

Our new space is smaller, but so is our base – about 1/3 of the larger gym’s population. But within our 3,100 ish square feet, we operate during the hours of 7:00 am to 11:00 am, and 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The gym is quiet for the remaining hours and days. It’s fully furnished with Rogue equipment from standard barbells to small ones appropriate for all ages from seniors to kids. Our inventory of dumbbells and Kettlebells is large and we have increments from very low to very high in weights – again, perfect for all age ranges. We are equipped as an average-sized “functional fitness” gym.

THE PLAN: The plan could look like two different things or one and the same.

  1. We are looking for a new coach who is looking to make training seniors their new profession. Ultimately to help grow the program in hours and operations, and would also be able to sub for Ed and Sam (and vice versa).
  2. We are also on the hunt for someone who is interested in opening or running a gym – turnkey. Our original plan was to pay rent back to Rebels (which we did for a year) in exchange for the space and equipment to train our athletes. This is the relationship we’re looking for so more of our time is focused on the outreach with this program. This person could run personal training, group “functional fitness classes” (as of October of this year), yoga, and/or a kid’s program…the gym is truly set up for any of this.

We are dedicated to our original plan, and with the past two years of building a new gym and a few personal “blips”, we feel like time is getting away from us. If you know anyone who is interested in any of the above, send them our way. The best way to reach us is via EMAIL. Or message us through any of the social media channels and we’ll find you.
