On August 6, 2011, a tragedy shook the military community and Americans everywhere. In a single instance, America lost 30 military service members, many of whom were members of the Navy SEAL community—and one military K9– when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter, call sign Extortion 17, was downed in Afghanistan.

WHAT IS THE 31HEROES WOD?

The 31Heroes WOD (workout of the day) was specifically designed to remember the fallen heroes of August 6, 2011 and honor their legacy of sacrifice.

The 31Heroes WOD will take place simultaneously across the globe, in your local gym or a location of your choosing, on or around August 6, 2022.

This is how we remember. This is how we come together to support those who’ve fought for us.

The 31Heroes WOD is more than a workout.

This is a mission to give back to those who’ve given their all.
Grab a partner, and join the team.

AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) in 31 minutes to honor the 31 Heroes who gave their lives on August 6, 2011

8-6-11 reps in memory of August 6, 2011 – this is the RX version of the workout. See our explanation of “RX” in the August Newsletter before your start arguing with your coach about what you “want” to do!

  • 8 Thrusters (155/105#) – we have established the Legends load at 75/55 and scale down from here.
  • 6 Rope Climbs (15 ft. ascent) – we have rigged a rope climb progression that most can probably accomplish. We have not worked on true rope climbs in class so we won’t be doing them as RX
  • 11 Box Jumps (30/24) – we have established a box jump or step up height of 24/20 for our WOD.

Like the warriors of our armed services, this WOD is about working together, sacrificing yourself for your teammate, and accomplishing the mission together. Partner 1 performs the workout listed above. In the RX version, Partner 2 runs 400m with a sandbag (45/25). When Partner 2 returns from the run, Partner 1 will grab the sandbag, and begin their 400m run, while Partner 2 continues the workout where Partner 1 left off. We will row a designated distance of 500M or 3 minute max to accommodate for differences in ability. We also have teams of three with one resting partner.

This is a long workout – we’re not used to 31 solid minutes – so with the heat added to the equation, anticipate you’ll work for 6 minutes and rest for 3 for 31 minutes.

Good luck!
