METFIX FOUNDATIONS, COMPLETE!
Dang was that a blast from the past! Ed drove us (Sam, Moana and Jean) to Jacksonville for the weekend to attend the MetFix Foundations Seminar. Lemme catch you all up here:
- In 2007 Ed and I started CF’ing and were introduced to Coach Glassman’s sport, and his methodologies, including nutrition, the foundation of the development of an athlete, and frankly a human being.
- From 2007-2010 we dug in hard, studied under Charles Poliquin and his BioSignature, read every book on diet, hormones and eating for health we could, including the late Art DeVaney, the Godfather of the Paleo movement, Robb Wolf and Mark Sisson…some of the pioneers of low carb higher fat eating.
- In 2010 when we opened CF Rebels, we worked REALLY HARD on the foundation of the pyramid that WAS Gregg Glassman’s methodology

- We drilled that sucker down for 10+ years – Challenges and blog posts and EVERYONE knew we were looking at their diets, and pretty much, everyone knew what to do…whether they chose to adhere or not. We were all younger at the time – me in my late 30’s early 40’s and Ed in his 40’s and 50’s. And our athletes were younger – we could get way with A LOT! Training hung over on carbs or alcohol wasn’t a problem. Both the creaks of old age and a broken metabolism hadn’t set in yet for most of us.
- Enter the post COVID fiasco that felled Rebels, and Ed and I end up in a new space with our then “Legends”, now GrandMastersRx, and we just haven’t gotten our shit together yet to formalize the foundation of our nutrition program here. We still use Coach’s methods and philosophies…so why not be as aggressive with you guys on diet as we were with the younger folk? I’m afraid to say it: YouTube, social media and frankly some of your healthcare and ancillary providers make me want to blow my brains out. If I had a quarter for every time one of our athletes sends me a YouTube or social media link for some newfangled supplement or theory on diet, or when they say: Hey Sam, I saw on YouTube (or IG or FB) that……” 🤯🤯🤯, my blood pressure goes up and I take a deep breath and try to get ready for the crazy. Ed and I have known we’ve needed something up to the point that last November we took 37 of you (about a third of the gym) through a 21 day “challenge” right before Thanksgiving and it was probably THE most successful event we’ve run. Compliance, results, and for some, adherence after the challenge – on point! But, that’s a “kick start” and we all know, like with our fitness, sometimes it’s just better in groups, and with ongoing support…and we knew that.
- Early this year, 2025, Coach Glassman and his Co-founder Emily Kaplan announced their initiative called MetFix and we were excited to be in the first 100 of their new affiliates. But still…we’re trying to figure out “how” to do this – lucky as we learned this weekend, we know what, but how has always eluded me. I’m not a “shoot one duck at a time person” – there are too many of you. I was hoping this weekend at MetFix’s Foundations seminar I’d see or hear or be led to an idea. What we got was confirmation that what we’ve believed since the early days of Paleo, being connected to the right platforms (social, medical, and research), that the rules haven’t changed, nor has the solution. In fact, that was the message this weekend – the foundation of nutrition today, in 2025, almost 2026, is not different from what we learned back in 2007. The world is just sicker, heavier and more reliant on drugs, supplements and sorry, but excuses, than ever before. We have to help you guys get on board – lose body fat, fix your gut health and sleep, and FEEL what freedom from being unwell is like. And that’s why we went this weekend.
- Full Disclosure – I got choked up (me? LOL). I owe Greg Glassman (well, Ed and I do) SO MUCH. Our affiliation in 2010 changed our lives – for the better. Our affiliate, our athletes/friends changed our lives for the better. And the methodologies and community changed all our lives. The emotion came from the data MetFix has been putting out on cancer as a metabolic disease. I had the opportunity to tell Coach and Emily that they were 2 years late for me, but if I ever come up against it again, because of them I’ll know what to do and hopefully they’ll reach so many others, we won’t be misguided in our treatment journeys any longer. These two are truly saving lives – have been and are continuing.

I spend the morning tearing apart our library. I pulled out my Poliquin course and it runs parallel with our weekend with MetFix. The books I unshelved from Robb Wolf, Jeff Volek, Ben Greenfield, (early) Sarah Ballantyne, Gary Taubes, Robert Lustig, (early) Diane Sanfilippo, Nina Teicholz…and the list goes on…brought up some seriously good and confident feels. We can do this…just have to figure out how to convince YOU GUYS that there may be a better way, and albeit slightly uncomfortable at first, you may have to ask whoever’s advice you’re following how: “How’s this working for me?”. If not, might be time to open your mind, get off social media and YouTube and do some real life experimenting and work – and we’re getting ready to help those who are ready.
We’ll have a sign up sheet up at the gym soon – we want to know who’s interested…who’s really ready. No maybes or “I’m not sure I can do this”. We want those are are ready and committed in this first group -and it’ll be small as a trial, but we believe in group training…so let’s tackle this diet thing TOGETHER!
Again, sorry for the late post below – Ed drove as fast as he could to get us home but I just didn’t get ‘er done!
PS – pardon typos. No time for excessive proofreading today.
